Cantilever racking exists for stock that pallet racking cannot hold - pipe, timber, extruded profile, board and panel. Because there are no front uprights, a forklift or side loader can place long lengths straight onto the arms without threading them past a frame.

When heavy sheets, plates, bars or pipes are handled by crane, fixed levels make the lower stock hard to reach. In a roll out rack, each level runs on rollers and pulls out of the frame, so the material is lifted straight up from above without moving the stock stored over it.
